IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR RENOVATORS, CONTRACTORS, PAINTERS & LANDLORDS:

Building professionals and renovators must be certified by completing a one-day course offered in accordance with the federal

“Renovation, Repair and Paint” (RRP) laws before conducting renovation activities on Pre-1978 homes and child-occupied buildings.

Certified renovators must also provide a “Renovate Right Pamphlet” to owners & occupants before making any renovations.

RRP training is provided by Seagull Environmental Management Company, Inc. and assisted by New England Lead Solutions, L3C.

Our course is EPA approved for purposes of certification under Section 402 of the federal Toxic Substances Control Act for Certified Renovator.

Text Box: Vermont Has It’s Own EMP Lead Paint Law That Must Be Followed In Addition to the Federal RRP Law! Vermont passed the “Essential Maintenance Practices” (commonly referred to as “EMP”) law some years back. Among other requirements, the law requires owners and contractors to use lead safe practices when working on pre-1978 rental housing and child occupied facilities. Persons who are covered by this rule must be certified by completing a 4 hour EMP course in addition to the RRP certification course required by EPA. Contractors must hove BOTH certifications (RRP and EMP) before working on pre-1978 residential rental properties and child occupied facilities. IMPORTANT INFO FOR BURLINGTON BASED RENOVATORS AND CONTRACTORS:

The City of Burlington has incorporated the federal lead paint laws into the local city ordinance.

Contractors must provide proof of RRP certification when applying for a permit

before commencing work on pre-1978 homes and child occupied facilities.

Contractors must also provide a completed “post-renovation RRP checklist” to close out their permit.
